Feb update: North Canterbury's best kept summer secret?

Updated: Feb 20, 2020

Most play/music groups, including the Waimakariri Library preschool sessions, are back on for the year but just double check on the group's Facebook page or get in touch with a contact listed on the information in Playgroup Timetables. 29 February-8 March is Seaweek and our local libraries are celebrating this with special themed sessions during this week (see link).

For mums who would like support related to breastfeeding, the Mother4Mother Breastfeeding Support group at the Rangiora Health Hub is up and running with Peer Supporters and a Lactation Consultant there to support you every Friday morning (find their Facebook page here).

Have you considered joining a mums n bubs fitness group? There are a range of fitness classes etc listed on this page and all are child-friendly.

I have updated this page on the website: Out & About - More Fun Ideas with a couple of summer ideas based around my recent experiences (bus trips!) and new fun things I am just starting to learn about (rock hunting!). If you have any other ideas, please get in touch so that I can add these.

I might be spoiling one of North Canterbury's best kept secrets here, but.... we recently visited the Leithfield toddler pool, located on Lucas Drive, just before the Holiday Park office. It was super quiet (the Waikuku toddler pool can be so busy!) and rumour has it that you often have the whole pool to yourself on weekdays. In summer on Friday and Saturday evenings you can order fish n chips from the food truck, and you can pick up ice creams during the day from the Holiday Park office (just a few steps away from the pool). There is a decent looking playground nearby and of course access to the beach.
